ABOUT US

It all started in October 2016, when two friends, Marcy Loveless and Tiffany Noyes had a conversation about serving the community. Marcy had recently returned from a medical service trip to Africa and had a profound desire to serve her community. She reached out to Tiffany for help finding that need. Later that month, Randi-lyn Leonard (a local social worker) and Tiffany were discussing the issue of hunger in Carbon County and how our teachers, school staff, and social workers are all too often trying to fill that void alone.

Tiffany felt that something more could, and should be done. She reached out to Marcy and they both began making plans to help provide food for these kids over the 5 day Thanksgiving weekend. Between Tiffany, Marcy and Randi-Lyn the three of them found a way to make it work. Marcy and Tiffany worked to get the word out, raise money, and get the community involved with donating the needed food to stock these kits. Randi-lyn worked with the school district and the school counselors at each school location to identify the children who would benefit from this. During this amazing initial effort, Marcy felt that this should be an ongoing effort and not just for the long holiday. This is when Carbon Caring for Kids began.

Randi-lyn continuously works to distribute these kits in the schools and to those in need. She communicates weekly with the counselors and provides Marcy and Tiffany with a total number of needed kits. She does all of this while maintaining the precious anonymity of the families and children. Marcy and Tiffany then go to work gathering donations, pre-packing food, scheduling volunteers, packing kits, shopping for needed items, and delivering the food to the schools. Marcy manages the Facebook page and has offered her home for food storage and volunteer efforts.

Thus far, we have been able to meet the needs of every school in our district which includes: Sally Mauro Elementary, Helper Junior High, Mont Harmon Middle School, Creekview Elementary, Castle Heights Elementary, Wellington Elementary, Pinnacle Elementary & Secondary schools, and Bruin Point Elementary. Every week our community, YOU, help us with your time, food donations, kit deliveries, spreading the word, money donations, and most importantly: YOUR SUPPORT! We have had many heartfelt stories of how these kits have been the only food source for some children on weekends. Other stories have been shared of parents crying with gratitude as they picked up their child’s kit. We are continuously overwhelmed with the support we receive. You are truly making a difference in a child’s life! THANK YOU!
